Reasons I Love To Teach (#1)

I’m starting a new series because this week I was reminded over and over again just how much I freaking love to teach.  Some days are hard.  Others are long.  Some weeks I feel like curling up in the fetal position on my classroom floor.  But MOST days are wonderful.  And here’s why.

Reason # 1

The wallflowers will occasionally shock you.

Today’s example comes from one of my Korean girls who has said maybe 10 words in class.  Maybe 10.  Her English isn’t awesome and her voice is ridiculously quiet, but it turns out that she is kind of hilarious. Continue reading

October wows

Each month I record the moments in life that made me pause and say/think/feel “Wow.”  These are those moments.

Quite fitting for October, I encountered these boys in the grocery store:

I’m the type of person who talks to kids I don’t know and freaks them out, so naturally I asked about his boney friend.  The boy didn’t answer me.  Instead he looked at me like I was the freak carrying a skeleton and walked quickly to his mom. Continue reading
